HEMATITE on QUARTZ, St. Gotthard, Switzerland. A compound crystal of hematite, with a few, tiny, red rutile crystals, is perched on the side of a compound, doubly-terminated quartz crystal. In the photograph that shows the hematite to the left, the quartz crystal shows contact faces. It stands on a custom-made base by Alec Madoff, mount maker to the American Museum of Natural History. Measures 2-1/4x1-1/2x1-1/4 inches. Sold.
